This is the beginning screen of the trailer is a MPAA Splash Screen for trailers approval. The purpose of this is to safe guard the audience, for example on the screen it says “All Audiences” which shows the audience that this film can be shown on TV. The websites of the authorities are also listed on the screen. This gives the audience the chance to visit the websites if they want to find out more information about why the film has received a certain age rating and what is in the film that makes the film of this certain age rating. All professional film companies use these screens at the beginning of the film to make the audience aware of the age rating and also shows the professionalism behind the creating of the film.  The green background and white text is centred which shows the audience that this screen is a very important screen with the white text being capitalized to signify the importance

This screen is used to show the audience what production company has been used to create the film. The title “Ghost House Pictures” is used to show the audience that this company is aimed and created to make films in the horror genre and this tells the audience that the film company is specialised in creating horror films and makes the audience aware that the film trailer is going to be based on a horror film. The keyhole in the middle of the text which a skull is appearing from which makes the audience have a jump scare as the skull just appears from no-where which makes the audience become involved with the film and makes them gain focus on the trailer and the message behind the trailer. The text has been capitalised in the trailer to signify the importance of the production company as without the production company the film would not be a reality. The audience will be able to link the production company with other horror films that they have watched and if they enjoyed the previous film they will watch this film to see the work of the production company and what they have done differently to what they did in previous films which makes the audience excited to find out.

The background has now changed from both previous titles and is now a Vignette effect on the title and the vignette effect is black and the background past this effect is white. The background on the right hand side appears to have some kind of substance running down the side of the image which leaves the audience wondering the relevance behind this and why this is involved in the trailer. The text tells the audience that the film is brought to the audience by the “director of Spider-Man”. This makes the audience aware that the director of an amazing box office hit and fans of the film Spider Man will watch this film as they would like to see how the director of Spider Man has made this film the next box office hit and to see how the change in genre has had an impact on the directors work. The words are again capitalized to signify the importance of the black bold title and the text being centred as it shows the audience that the director is centre of attention in this film as he is the one that put the film together.  In the next screen, it is very similar to the previous screen as it shows that the director has directed a different popular film which is the genre of horror which shows the audience that this director is very good at directing different genres and that he is very known for directing the genre such as horror so the film is going to be good and makes the audience interested to find out what makes the directors work so good.

The background of this title is has the effect Vignette on the one side and plain on the other side. This makes the audience aware that the topic of the title has changed and that this title is a new title and does not have much relevance to the previous titles. The title is bold and black but has an effect on the title to make it more relevant to the horror theme as parts of the letters have been faded to have an old effect which is a connotation of horror. The text is capitalized to show the importance as the film is due to be released “this may” which makes the audience aware that the film to this trailer is going to be released soon and that the word “this” shows that the film is due to be released very soon. The title is bold to highlight the importance behind it as it gives the audience the month release date but does not give the audience the actual release date which the audience then need to go and research about the release date of the film making the audience be more interested in the film as they want to know the exact date that it is going to be in cinemas. The background is still the same as the last background but more lines and dots have been added leaving the audience still questioning what the relevance is behind this.

The background screen has a drastic change and now becomes dirty and looks like it is coming to the end of the trailer as the background is a way of revealing what the audience should expect from the film, such as a dark background behind the story. The words “The Return” and “True Horror” shows the audience that the storyline behind this film could possibly be based upon a true story which leaves the audience on edge and interested to know the storyline as it happened in a real life situation. It also gives the audience an adrenaline rush as they are excited to find out the storyline as they know this actually happened in real life. The text is smudged at the corners to make the audience aware that something like this has happened before and to show the audience that nothing is going to be right or normal in this film as it is a horror film and shows the audience that they have no idea of what to expect from the storyline that is going to be in the film. The text is bold which signifies the importance of the message behind it and shows the audience that the trailer is coming to an end due to the quick change in background.

The last title is the title of the film. The director has chosen to leave the title to last to leave the audience interested in the content of the trailer rather than the title as they will find this out at the end so they do not forget what the film is called. The text is smudged to the left however the text is positioned to the right which shows the audience that things are not going to be normalised in this film and that the title is going to be a representation of what the audience should expect from the film. The word “Hell” is associated with horror as hell is based around the devil and the idea of all of the bad things in the world. The word “drag” has been added to the word “hell” to show the idea of punishment and torture which are also connotations of horror.  The background has now got the Vignette effect all around it to highlight the importance of the title as without the title the audience would not know what film is going to be called which the trailer would not gain any publicity from the trailer.

What I have learned and how I am going to use this in my trailer

From analysing the titles, I have learned many things. The first thing that I have learned is that putting the title of the film at the end of the trailer is very effective as it makes the audience focus more on the content of the trailer rather than the film title. This makes sure the audience will remember the name of the film if they see the title last as this is the last thing that they will see which is of any importance. The next thing that I have learned is that using various titles that have hidden meanings are very important as giving out hints of text will make the audience think about the relevance and how this is going to relate to the horror film. From analysing these titles, I will be using these things in my own trailer. I will be making sure we add the title of the film towards the last shots of the film so that the audience will remember the name of the film and make sure they remain focused on the content of the trailer. The last thing I will be taking from the titles analysis is adding titles that are hints to the audience about what they should expect from the film.
